So Much to Do....So Little Time!!!

We only have a few short weeks left in first grade and we are having so much fun and learning so many things!!!

We watched United Talent dancers display various forms of dance and we learned some new moves!

We met Miss Kentucky and listened to her play some bluegrass music on her fiddle.

We learned some new theater scenes from The Lion King performed by ACE leaders.

Here is a link to our amazing, talented principal's clogging demonstration!

We have been learning about our community, types of workers and entrepreneurs during our Junior Achievement time.

Almost there....

We have almost made it to the end of the year!!! We have been super busy too. Between science projects, science night, field trips and other classroom activities, first grade gets no rest!:)

Here is our classroom science project about what happens when we place an egg in vinegar....Our hypothesis was that it would change in some way....we placed an egg in vinegar for 4 days and we place another in water as a control. We found out that the results of our experiment didn't match all of our individual hypotheses (some kids said the egg would blow up!-gotta love first grade!). We talked about how that's ok and that as "scientists" we are always learning and adapting. We found out we did get a very "bouncy" egg as a result f the vinegar for 4 days!

Here are some of the individual science fair projects. If you came to science night you got to view them, do hands on projects and see out own class in a video!

The field trip to he Explorium focusing in Dental health was a blast! Thanks to all
Parents for helping out!!

With just a few more weeks to go, we are learning as much as can before we go to 2nd grade. MAP testing is coming up soon so make sure to help your kids get plenty of rest and a yummy breakfast to start their day. Thank you for continued support of your fabulous kids. You make such a difference!

Spring has Sprung

Well, we are finally here! The long awaited spring break has come and the kids were bustling down the halls as they left today.

I haven't posted in awhile so here's a few updates on class activities and projects.

During our phonics unit on r controlled vowels, we walked the plank to learn words with -ar..... "Ar" Matey!

We have had some creative indoor recesses....

Layla made a playdough house we had to share.  We are ready to be outside now and enjoy the playground!

Camp Read-A-Lot was a success and I have had requests for future "camp outs"....

We have learned about the scientific method and completed our class science project.  Here are some pictures that show our eggs in vinegar and water. What a fun time we had hypothesizing, observing, recording and analyzing data. We are a great group of 1st grade scientists! You can check out our completed project at the science fair in April.

We had a great career week! We discussed future careers, colleges, and worked on our interpersonal team work skills with some new questioning strategies I learned at a Kagan professional development.

And here is our future....lots of fun careers represented!

Thanks for sharing your firsties with me each day! What an adventure!

100 Days and counting....

We have had such an exiting year so far and we CELEBRATED 100 days this past Monday!  Here are a few pictures from our fun day.

Our 100 day collections displayed for all to see!

We did a few measurement projects to see what equals 100 centimeters in our room. We also estimated what 100 drops of water would look like in a jar and checked our predictions with our own experiment.

Our "100 Day Buffet" of goodies.

Making  100 Day fruit loop necklaces.

Students also used an aging app to see what they would look like at 100 years old and then they wrote about it.....(This is actually a pic of my own daughter. It's pretty hilarious! You'll be seeing these come home soon.)

And after all of our celebrating this week, the work continues with math centers where students focus on place value.

Students also had time this week to add to their interactive reading notebooks and review some of the past phonics and comprehension skills.

First grade is tons of fun as always!!!

Thanks for sharing your little firsties with me! It's always an adventure.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

I wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Thanks to everyone who donated toppings and/or came out to the Blizzard Party. It was a sweet way to start our break. Be well and enjoy your family over the next couple of weeks! We will return to school Monday, January 5th.

I also wanted to share a few of our Christmas around the world pictures. From the United States to Mexico to Italy and several other countries, all of the kids loved learning about traditions of other children during Christmas time.

Celebrating Christmas in Mexico with a
Piñata.....

Celebrating Christmas in England with traditional Christmas crackers....

A Mystery Reader guest sharing "The Polar Express"....

We celebrated Christmas sweater day....

And even in all this fun and celebrating,
there was still plenty of learning going on with Mrs. Peters' Pride....

Thankful....

I am so thankful for my "pride" of first graders! We practiced and worked hard to get ready for "The ABC's of the First Thanksgiving".  Thank you to everyone who came out to watch the play.
We have also been working on our weekly grammar and phonics skills as we write our Daily News on the interactive board. The students love being "news casters".
